If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been wanting a Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM for quite some time.
This bag was something I’ve had on my wishlist for YEARS. I never took the plunge because it was so expensive. I knew they were an investment piece, but I didn’t have the guts to buy one.
I have several Louis Vuitton small leather goods which I bought some new and some pre-owned.
Well, I bought my dream bag. I purchased a Monogram Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM! I chose to purchase pre-owned for multiple reasons. Here’s why:
- Price– This is the most obvious reason you would think I bought pre-owned. And while it does make a difference, I was fully prepared to purchase a brand new Louis Vuitton. I ended up NOT purchasing new for the next two reasons. However, if you are looking to save money on a specific Louis Vuitton item, you can find great pre-owned pieces that are like new, for a good price cut.
- Patina– When you are purchasing a Louis Vuitton item that has real, untreated leather on it, buying it brand new means brand new, almost white looking leather. This is a preference thing. I personally do not like the look of brand new leather on a Louis Vuitton bag. This is for several reasons. First, it looks like a knock off. Usually, knock off bags come with fake leather that doesn’t patina (darken) like real leather. So, whenever I see a brand new Louis Vuitton bag, it looks fake. I love the look of an even honey patina on Louis Vuitton bags. Second, brand new leather is very sensitive. Here in WI this time of year it’s snowing often. I did not want to spend over $1,000 on a brand new bag, with brand new leather, and be afraid to wear it out. If your not familiar with Louis Vuitton, the natural leather can get water spots on it if you bring it out in the rain, snow, etc.
- Country– Louis Vuitton items are made in several different countries, you can find out which country by looking at the ‘made in’ tag or the date code. I wanted a Louis Vuitton that was made in France. This was just another personal preference of mine. If you purchase new, you do not get to choose or see your exact bag, unless you are in store. Here in WI, we do not have a Louis Vuitton store, so I would have had to travel to one or order online for a brand new bag.
If you are looking to purchase a pre-owned Louis Vuitton bag, please do your research on the bag and purchase from a credible website.
I have spent hours researching Louis Vuitton items and how to authenticate them. There are so many different things you can look at to authenticate a Louis Vuitton item like the stitching, date code, canvas, handles, zipper pull, etc. I can look at a Louis Vuitton item and authenticate it pretty much immediately.
