Ready to organize?
Over this last long weekend, I spent a lot of time organizing things around our apartment. Mainly, closets. My biggest project was to organize our walk-in closet to make it more functional and simple.
Now my closet isn’t anything too fancy. It’s considered a walk-in but it’s not huge. So I needed to make sure I was using all the vertical space.
Before I started organizing, I made sure to vacuum. My favorite vacuum ever is my Dyson V7 Cordless Vacuum. This vacuum is a game changer. No cord and a ton of attachments make vacuuming way easier than it used to be. I linked it below (on sale!)
One thing I decided to do was store some of my shoes in my walk-in closet instead of having all of them in the front closet of our apartment. I decided I needed more room for shoes I don’t wear every day or fancier shoes.
I found the perfect (and affordable) shoe storage option from Target.
These shoe racks are under $15 each and they’re stackable! I went with two of the shelving units and put them side by side to create a lot of horizontal shoe storage underneath my hanging clothes.
For my shoes, I decided to color code them from light to dark, as most of the shoes I put in my closet were neutral in color. I found this to make it look simplified and less cluttered.
Our walk-in closet has a lot of built-in shelving. One way I like to utilize these shelves is to fold and stack my jeans. I sort them in two piles. This is the easiest way I have found to store jeans. I also fold them so I can see the back pocket, that way I know exactly which jeans are which.

Similarly, I also store my sweaters and cardigans this way. Instead of hanging them, I fold them and lay them flat on top of one another. This way the shoulders don’t get stretched out by being on a hanger.
My all-time favorite hangers to use are velvet hangers. I switched from plastic cheap hangers to velvet years ago and I’ll never go back.
Velvet hangers are non slip. That’s my number one reason you need them. No matter what type of material you hang on them, it won’t fall off. They also save space. Plastic hangers can be bulky, velvet ones are super slim. They also have these hangers in a cream color, which I love. Someday maybe I’ll switch, but I already have a ton of these black velvet ones.
