Let’s face it, your makeup brushes are probably dirty right now. It’s time for a wash.
There are so many expensive products specifically for washing our makeup brushes and I’m sure they work fabulously. But I’m not one to spend a ton on a cleaner for my makeup brushes because there are so many affordable options that you can buy at your local grocery store or Target (come on, I know you love Target).
Cleaning your makeup brushes can be a simple or big task. There are a few ways to do it. One way is to simply disinfect them so they are dry quickly and are ready to go, or you can give them a full wash with water and makeup brush cleaners. if you’re looking for a fast cleaning solution to spray on your brushes to disinfect them quickly, try basic liquid alcohol in a spray bottle. Spritz it on your brush after use, and wipe with a clean paper towel. This is the simplest, fastest way to sanitize your makeup brushes. But I would only recommend this in between deep cleanings, which you should do at least once every week or two.
To deep clean, I like using hot water and Dr. Bronners Pure-Castile Bar Soap. This method I have found to get the MOST makeup out of my brushes, even white ones! The soap itself is very similar to the beauty blender solid cleanser.
- To start, I wet my makeup brush with warm/hot water
- Swirl my brush directly on the bar soap
- Continue swirling and adding hot water when needed
Once the brush looks to be clean, or the soap and water is clear, you’re done! Ta-da! A nice, clean makeup brush. Stand the brush up on its side with a clean washcloth underneath to dry. I usually let it dry overnight before using. Always remember to rinse the bar soap when you are done and store it for next time.
You can also use the same bar soap to clean your makeup sponges (beauty blender, real techniques sponges, etc). The best part about this method is the bar soap lasts FOREVER. My bar soap lasted me at least 6 months, or more! A three-pack of this soap is only $15. I know there are some other fan-favorite cleaners which I will link below. The beauty blender cleaner is fabulous but the price isn’t so much. The Cinema Secrets brush cleaner is also a fan favorite that I have yet to try.
