I started my blog 7 months ago. I wanted a place to share fashion, beauty, and lifestyle inspiration. I wanted to have a creative outlet. And that’s when I started
It’s crazy to me how fast that time went. I had no clue what I was getting into when I decided to start a blog. Ok, I knew a little bit. But I’ve learned so much that I didn’t know before.
If you’re reading this because you wonder if you could start a blog, you can. Anyone can. But, just know that it’s not a walk in the park. It’s not easy.
Looking back from just 7 months ago, my content has changed and grown so much. But, there is still so much to learn and I’m excited about. I have 5 things I want to share with you about what I’ve learned in just 7 months.
- Things Take Time – You won’t get instant gratification from being a blogger. You go through all the steps to launch your blog, and then no one reads it. At least for the first few weeks/months. When I first started I had to keep telling myself “everyone starts somewhere”. Think about it, everyone no matter who they are and what they do, started from somewhere. It’s easy to get discouraged, but you need to just keep going. I still get discouraged, but I keep going.
- It Takes A lot of Work – There is so much that goes into blogging. From an outside perspective, it looks like it’s all fun and games. Take photos, get free products, type, easy peasy. NO. Far from it. Blogging takes so much time and energy. I’m not complaining, I’m just being honest. Blogging takes planning content, taking photos, learning about technology, building relationships, and so so much more.
- You Need to Build Relationships – I’ve made new friends through this blogging process that I couldn’t do this without. Jasmine, I hope you’re reading this! Connecting with other bloggers online and in person has been so helpful and fun. I’ve learned so much from other bloggers who have been so kind as to share tips with me. I’ve also engaged through social media a lot with other bloggers by commenting and following other bloggers from around the world.
- You Have to Love It – You can’t just decide to do a blog and force yourself to do something unless you love it. If you love something, it shows. If you’re thinking about starting a blog, you have to make sure you love a few things:
- You love being busy
- You love whatever your niche is going to be
- You love creating
In my case, being busy is something I like. I’m not one to lay around unless I’m sick, or tired. I like to stay busy and have things on my agenda.
I’m always using a planner to keep my thoughts on paper. I love to write out my plans and obligations just to see it as a whole.
I hope you got something out of this post. If you’re thinking about starting a blog, go for it. Nobody should stop you. But you have to want it and you have to stick with it. So many people start a blog and then it just fades out. I wish you the best of luck!
